The public already has an effective way to tackle this without legal action.
Stop using it. If you would be discomforted to see a tool used to target you, then don't use it. If there's no users, and no money, then the application will eventually die off. Of course in the meantime, you'll be caught on plenty of cameras etc from other organisations which don't make the output public. Personally I just hope I spot myself after seeing the Streetview car come passed me in Cambridge.
I was discussing this with a colleague in the US recently. His responses; “You should be more concerned about all those CCTV cameras in London”. He has a point. At least Google, in this instance, is collecting the information in order to make it freely available to everyone. It’s when information is kept for the benefit of one party that we should be more concerned.
The CCTV issue is interesting - yes its walled garden but otoh its not available to the masses for mining, scraping etc.
