Playing devil's advocate for a minute - what matters more, what someone says, or what someone does? At the end of the day, they are giving away the bumpers, so no matter how much they protest and blame everyone for the non-problem, at least they're acting in the end.
And considering Apple's DNA, it's highly unlikely that the press conference would have included a "we goofed" admission. At the end of the day, I don't think Apple will be harmed by this. There will be a mad rush on bumpers, and complaints that they're aren't enough, but in a perverse way that will reflect well on Apple because it will show how insanely greatly popular the iPhone 4 is. By the way, I agree with your "laggardly Early Adopter" strategy. (The way that I say it is "I am not trendy.") Whether you're talking about super-cool tech items, or merely functional tech items, it's good to wait a while before actually getting said products. |
