Call a spade a spade, Alan: Vince Cable's exact words were "We are waging war on Murdoch" (and I don't think those words were tricked out of him.) The problem Cable lumbered the government with was that after he'd said that, News Int. had all the grounds they needed for a legal challenge, should the decision not go in their favour. Now, Hunt has to show that the government is even-handed and willing to believe Murdoch's plans might be okay.
Question for everyone: do we believe that BSB's other shareholders have been acting as a brake on Murdoch's interventions in British politics? I don't think they have.)
Oh I agree re Vince, but the way he was outed was interesting.
However, Hunt is very arguably no better, and this shilly-shallying isn't helping the perception of a neutral process!
And re other investors - no, but they represent an option to do so and by not owninhg it I suspect all sorts of abuses that could occur have not.
