Alan, great post I'm glad you've mentioned this.
Olympics ceremonies, a World Cup, the Royal Wedding, even 9/11, they're stepping stone experiences towards another level in global consciousness. By sharing a global social object, people conjoin a little more, are moved one way or another by the connections and experiences. They reflect shared values on a transnational, cross-cultural, universal basis as moments of social ritual and sometimes unexpected, formative rites of passage.
