Addendum...this is the logo that won the BBC's "User Submitted Logo" contest. All those who protest make T shirts using it
Just found this, re the Lisa Simpson Epileptic Swastika Brand-not-Logo (aka the London Olympic Logo)....from the people who blew £400k on it
"People are just going to have to get used to it," said Adrian Bassett, of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG). "We are not going to go away and change it."
Interesting approach.......methinks he forgetteth who is paying for all this* (A common enough thing in the days of no online media of course, in fact it was (clearly still is?) traditional to fleece the taxpayer in their own name.)
In fact its a fine example of
Agency Theory, where the behaviour of people spending Other People's Money is totally different to their behaviour with their own, especially when its hard to see what they are up to.
Going back to the discussion a few days back on
how the web can change politics and governance however, this is a prime example of something that is probably harder to get away with now, essentially because the cost of seeing what they are up to is going down due to the online media spread - user generated content includes whistle blowing etc.
It will also be interesting, seeing that the dissenting Vox Populi is now also more visible (as it were), to see if there is a climbdown and turnaround. Bookmakers are 10/1 in favour this morning I believe.
Now if only the Vox Populi could be mobilised on the "really important" issues - or is this a key lesson of the rules of online media - this is something that is directly relevant to Londoners who, because its being done in their name, feel they should be in control of?
* the latest twist in this saga is the claim that this particular lump of cash is
not taxpayers money, but is sourced from elsewhere - interesting implication that incoming funding sources are mapped to outgoing, and be interesting to trace its origin anyway - but the point is irrelevant as the whole Olympic spend has so far has gone up from c $3bn to £9bn and as it is mainly the UK citizen who is being looted, you'd have thought that the very least they could have is a logo they liked
