Was chatting about this at FOWA 07 today so thought I'd test it out. The
previous post about FOWA 07 was picked up in Technorati within 20 minutes and as yet (some 7 hours later) is not in Google Blogs.
(Update - Google found it 8 hours after posting)
One interesting thing - if you search "FOWA 07" that post appears on Technorati, if you search "FOWA" we do not. It's not a ranking thing, we weigh in at 83 and quite a few of the ones shown are zero or sub 10 links - Go figure....(and its not just us - Suw Charman's
Strange Attractor has exactly the same problem on Technorati
and Google Blog, and its by far the most heavily trafficked / referenced blog up so far.
I also note that we log a rank of 83 in Technorati (ie 83 distinct current links) as opposed to 29 in Google Blogs. What is more entertaining is that some links differ from each (and from some links our web analysis package sees)
Post-script - after 2 days of looking at all the Fowa posts, Technorati has shown itself to be hugely better at getting both more of the posts, and far sooner - to the extent I pretty much gave up on Google Blogs.
Post-Post-script - I don't understand the Google Blog algorithm. If I assume that the Technorati rankings of different blogs are accurate relative to each other, and that a blog's ranking on Google is used in blogsearch, then some blogs that appear on page 1 when you type "fowa" just should not be there compared to others that are (later, bigger, more linked, heavier trafficked) not. Any ideas on what gives?
On the evidence to date I have to say Technorati, despite its ills, is significantly better than Google Blog Search from an accuracy point of view. (Usability is not so hot though, so I can see Google winning even though it is actually less accurate)
