the golden arches have had wifi all be it via openzone for a couple of years now
BT signs up Macdonald's for drive-thru Wi-Fi 4:47PM, Wednesday 7th January 2004 Macdonald's fast food joints will soon be supporting Wi-Fi access following a deal with BT. The golden arches will now be the location for a further 500 BT Openzone access points.
All true...but the point is that this is *free*, and its disruptive in that comms is being subsidised by other revenue rather than being paid for directly via subscription / PAYG / Advertising etc.
Its also disruptive in that the cost of hotspot rollout is neglibible (compared to say a Telco rolling out a national Mobile TV network) |
