i think you're underestimating the level of lock-in facebook has for someone who built a list of 500 friends with it at university. For them, facebook IS their address book. Dave Winer is hardly a representative of their target user base. I'd be more worried if the college kids were getting fed up but i dont see any sign of that.
OK, good point - I guess those of us of Web 1.0 vintage have email lists, mobile phone lists, Linked-in lists etc so we are more keen on export today.
Be interesting to see how the Facebook listholders feel when they want to move to the Next SocNet, cos it will definitely come ![]()
Im still not convinced that it's inevitable that people will move quickly onto another social net. Friends Reunited and Friendster had nowhere near the same level of network effect/ lock-in. I'd say a better example is hotmail which people are still using today even though other alternatives have emerged.
