There were howls of anguish from the chatterati with Twitter collapsing last night
in the Applegasm, now Dave Winer
weighs in with;
Twitter is doing us a service, with its lack of stability, in illustrating the dangers of centralized systems. We do need to figure out how to build a Twitter-like system with all the advantages of centralization and none of the disadvantages.
And last year Skype taught us the same lesson, and next year it'll be yet another free service du jour. You gets what you pays for. Twitter is UM Lite, Telcos struggled with doing this
and trying to get 99.999 uptimes
and making money. But then they require business models, not VC funding models
Dave's solution, is of course RSS
And like Andrew, intuitively, it seems to me we could do it with RSS. Of course RSS is not very nice to edit by hand, so a little bit of software would be needed to handle the editing.
Heck man, you could do it with email - Twitter is just Yahoo Groups with pictures anyway!
