Bloggers who forget the past are doomed to repeat it....

So...TechCrunch notes that Blogger went down. This comes days after Twitter going down in the Applegasm.

There is a lesson here every time....people who use free services from other people are always at risk... Webservices may be dreadfully romantic and sexy, but romantic & sexy can also mean unreliable and risky. Or, as Groucho Marx may* have put it:

to be safe, bloggers need to control their means of production

We of course use Serendipity (open source software) and pay for our own hosting

(Now of course the Karma Gods will probably fry our hoster, or put a truck through it or something )

* with the emphasis on may...he also reportedly said he shot a blogger in his pyjamas.....what it was doing in them was never explained....
