Keep up Alan, I already predicted this last month
But seriously. You're right, Twitter is no longer about Status Updates, but 'What am I thinking'. And if what you're thinking isn't interesting, and that happens a lot, prepare to be unfollowed. Thanks for the mention Alan, nice post. That was also my favourite question too. I actually thought initially that too many @'s would be the main reason, so I'm happy to be proved wrong by all the respondents!
I agree with Mike that twitter has changed to "what am I thinking/reading/watching" - the bigger question is why do we feel the need to do so?
With the work of cybernetics will we ever have automated updates in the future ala borg like embedded into us? For more thoughts like this see the work of Ray Kuzweil, Kevin Kelly and especially Kevin Warwick. Finally I would add that I learnt more from twitters last week than techmemem. @ Mike, you're right, I noticed the increase in quality about a month ago (post on it here http://broadstuff.com/search/twitter/P2.html)
I wonder if its due to the people coming off Facebook (which started about a month or so earlier) onto Twitter with a different comms ethos. @ Thayer the one thing I hate is the # - I find it aesthetically jarring and just a bit twee as a concept - I note its not really taking off. @ Sam - I think Twitter is getting more useful than Techmeme simply because its drawing from a wider source (Techmeme is far more restricted now).
Luke Razzell is doing some interesting stuff adapting his Blogfriend technology to Twitter, that plays to this as well. |
