I agree with Alan Patrick on “we will probably find that the Semantic Web will break out differently in different verticals” but my agreement is based on different understanding of Semantic Web than outlined in the post.
I think that Semantic SOA is richer than Semantic Web and will drive the latter in certain directions. In particular, Semantic Web’s vision of the world as sophisticated data flows is only one side of the medal. SOA de-couples data from actions on data and from meaning of data and action results (another data or information about event). Semantic SOA will define a semantic execution context of many activities performed in the Semantic Web realm. Depending on industry vertical, the needs in "semantic dictionary", its size and complexity are different. This is what will influence different break out in different verticals. SOA, operation in both business and technology domains will facilitate the effect of semantic-based solution which include Semantic Web as a particular case. - Michael Poulin |
